Hi, and welcome to the website of Extinction Rebellion Hammersmith & Fulham; thanks for being here. If you are concerned about the Climate and Ecological Emergency then you’re in the right place.

You’ll find a lot of information here, facts about the Climate and Ecological Emergency, why it’s such a big problem and what you can do about it. You can become a part of XR in many different ways – joining one of the Working Groups is probably the best place to start. Have a look here for info on the different groups

There are WhatsApp groups for new people where you can learn about XR and what we do and also meet other people. The easiest way to do this is to join the Announcements WA group (do by following this link) which is where messages about various things are posted. Once you are registered on that someone will contact you to explain m ore about how it all works..

You’ll also find plenty of ways you can get support – for example in the Climate Cafe we are running every month. You can find out more HERE.

At a meeting recently we asked everyone to add to this word cloud – to get an idea of what XR H&F means to us:

A thought:

During the current Health Crisis you will have seen levels of pollution going down around the world. The satellite images of Spain and France below show the difference between 2019 and 2020 really clearly. (Images from the European Space Agency https://www.esa.int)

However, you might also have heard that levels of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere were recorded in April at their highest ever – 418 parts per million (www.co2.earth). This is higher than at any time in at least the last 3 million years (certainly at any time humans have existed) and unless we do something to drastically reduce the amount of CO2 we are putting into the atmosphere is likely to lead to a average global temperature rise of 3-4° by the end of this century. This is clearly vastly more the 2° we are legally committed to or the 1.5° we are desperately trying to keep increases below. 3-4° will have catastrophic results for billions of people and do irreparable damage to the Earth’s ecosystems. Although the current economic slowdown is reducing CO2 emissions, there is a lag of about 10 years before CO2 already produced stops accumulating in the atmosphere.

In Extinction Rebellion we are doing everything we can to try and avert this disaster. Have a look around this website and find out more. Then come and join – virtually for the time being, but as soon as restrictions are lifted we will be back to our weekly meetings in Hammersmith & Fulham, and our actions …
