Getting the Media to Work for XR
Training on Mondays 6-9pm, 20th July – 24th August (6 dates)
Designed for spokespeople, and anyone who deals with the print and broadcast media.
A six-part training series covering everything from understanding how the media works and anticipating what they want from you, to making the most of every type of interview – be that off the cuff interviews during actions, local radio phone ins, or difficult radio and TV interviews and writing effective press releases.
Actions can give us excellent opportunities to speak to a huge audience via the media. This interactive and practical training series gives you the tools to make the most of it.
A commitment to attending all sessions is required as learning is cumulative, and spaces are limited.
If possible, please bring a smart-phone / tablet with the ability to record a conversation to the training (in addition to the one you’re using to access Zoom).
If you want to take up this unique opportunity to improve your media skills, please contact Jo Bucklow at email@example.com as soon as possible.
There won’t by any Legal Observer training. “Witnessing an Arrest” training is available instead, but it is a skill, not a role.
XR is keen to keep Legal Observers and Rebels seperate.
organised by local XR groups on demand

XR’s nonviolence has both a strategic and ethical dimension: Strategically, nonviolence is an effective tool in mass mobilisations, as evidenced by social science research. Upholding nonviolent tension means actively creating a respectful culture and basis for trust whilst also exposing and confronting injustice. Ethically, XR takes the view that by undertaking the conscious, often challenging work of removing violence from the way we act and interact, we can connect more deeply and positively with each other and the world around us. Through this deliberate practice, we can model, or ‘prefigure’, the future we hope to create.
This training will provide:
• a deeper understanding of nonviolence
• a brief introduction to Non-Violent Communication
• one-on-one de-escalation with a range of different scenarios
• practical role-playing exercises
